This year, EPFL and ETHZ co-organize a PhD Summer School on City & Cognition to take place in Lausanne between June 20 and 24 (5 days).
The course focuses on the interdisciplinary application of cognitive approaches to the study of architecture, space, urbanism and social phenomena. During the course, lectures and workshops cover various approaches to the study of the perception and the production of material, social and imaginary space. Several themes such as proprioception, proxemics, mental mapping, landscape, and aesthetics are discussed.
Guest professors Barbara Tversky (Columbia U.), Juval Portugali (Tel Aviv U./TU Delft) and Giovanna Colombetti (U of Exeter) as well as EPFL Professor Jacques Lévy, and ETHZ Professor Christoph Hölscher will be lecturing extensively during the five days. Lectures are combined with research and writing workshops.
The fee for participation is CHF 270 (inc.VAT). This fee covers accommodation, and food for the 5 days.
The summer school will be conducted in English.
